9:00 - 10:30: Are you running your business, or is it running you?

Presented by Hunter Beamer, Terry Stewart and Lisa Migliore Black.

Course Description: The administrative part of working as a freelance court reporter can be very stressful.  It entails so much more than just producing a transcript and sending it out to attorneys.  In this session, panelist will share their insight on how to run a more efficient court reporting business, discuss different programs like scheduling software, invoicing, software, business insurance, and what to do in various scenarios that we face everyday.  The panelists will answer questions owner and also encourage audience members to share what they do in their setups and what they do in various situations.

10:45 - 12:15: Chair Yoga for Sedentary Professionals

Presented by Glenda Conway

Course Description:  During a chair-assisted yoga practice, a sturdy chair provides support for movements and poses that are done from a seated or standing position.  The emphasis throughout the practice is on stretching, balance, mindfulness, joint movements, and heathy breathing.  The goal is for participants to feel a sense of inner strength and peace.  A large body of scientific research has established that practicing yoga regularly is associated with improved balance, clearer thinking, and higher rates of contentment.  These moves are useful for working reporters to utilize at breaks in proceedings to maintain their physical and mental health.  The instructor Glenda Conway, holds a 200-hour yoga teaching certification from Lexington Healing Arts Academy.

1:00 -2:30:  Investing 101 and Financial Considerations for 1099 Careers

Presented by Lori Atwood

As independent contractors, court reporters are responsible for more than earning an income; you also need a plan for long-term financial security.  In this session, we'll break down investing basics, retirement options, and key financial considerations for 1099 professionals.  You'll leave with a better understanding of how to make informed financial decisions at every stage of your career.

2:15- 3:45:  The Enneagram at Work-Understanding Yourself and Your Team a a Deeper Level

Presented by Jess Myers

Course Description:  It's no secret that working with others can host challenges at times.  Between conflicts arising from differences in personality, misunderstandings borne out of varied communication styles, and alternative approaches to leadership, there's no shortage of potential issues.  A large part of this is how differently we all see the world, others, and ourselves.  This session will focus on the Enneagram model with nine personality types and apply the principles learned of each type to facilitate effective communication and collaboration in the workplace.  We will also explore how knowing your own personality type can help you develop a business model and workspace that will suit your personality and goals.
